Estimate the review scope, not a guaranteed cabinet count

This structured worksheet exposes the inputs that a prediction and commissioning plan will need. It does not calculate a final system from audience count alone. Coverage depends on geometry and directivity; level depends on distance, bandwidth and program; electrical and mechanical limits depend on the exact model.

Why the boundary matters

A double-18 subwoofer may offer greater low-frequency capability than a compact single cabinet, but it also changes weight, truck volume, power demand, placement options and neighbor impact. A powered line-array module reduces external amplifier specification, yet distributes mains, network and service connections in the rig. The right route is the one whose trade-offs fit the deployment.

A reproducible verification path

  1. State the configuration. Record exact loudspeaker models, array geometry, subwoofer placement, amplifier or powered-speaker preset, crossover, polarity and delay.
  2. State the environment. Note room state, audience condition, microphone model and position, source signal, bandwidth, weighting and operating level.
  3. Measure several positions. Include front, middle, remote and any balcony or under-balcony zone; a single favorable seat is not an acceptance test.
  4. Compare prediction and result. Investigate geometry, polarity, timing and room effects before using broad equalization.
  5. Archive the approved state. Save DSP files, routing, limiter state, measurement traces and the power-up or recovery sequence.

Tiered performance hall

Background: a main floor, balcony and limited loudspeaker trim positions create distinct vertical zones. Process: compare point-source zoning with array geometry; predict direct sound across the seating planes; verify mechanical load and under-balcony delay; then measure front, middle and balcony positions with the same signal and bandwidth. Result: an acceptance record that ties aiming, delay, crossover and level variance to named seats, with the approved DSP state attached.

Mobile event package

Background: the system must serve speech and music in changing rooms with limited setup time. Process: define a portable powered-loudspeaker and subwoofer path, check mains distribution, stand or pole limits, cable routes and an initial 80–100 Hz crossover evaluation window. Repeat polarity and level checks after every deployment. Result: a setup card listing cable order, placement boundaries, preset, reference playback track and symptoms that require inspection rather than more gain.

Multi-zone learning facility

Background: divisible rooms, presentation sources and nontechnical operators require stable routing. Process: map each room-combine state, source priority, coverage zone and control permission. Measure speech at occupied-noise conditions and verify latency between adjacent zones. Result: stored operating states, a simple user surface and an engineering recovery file that prevents routine staff changes from altering protection or alignment.
